2012 Fundraising Activities
Seed Money Project
FamilyFarms Teams were each given $20 as seed money in January and encouraged to multiply that money as many times as possible by July 2012. The funds will be used for Life’s Heart, the needs of the children in Stinkwater, South Africa and the FamilyFarms Charities general fund.
5k Run/Walk – July 2012
More than 70 hardy walkers and runners (FamilyFarms Teams, staff and guests) gathered in Forest Park, St. Louis to cover 5K (3.1 miles) early Wednesday morning, July 18. Despite the heat and humidity, all participants completed the course and were awarded medals. 100% of registration money will be used for FamilyFarms Charities projects in the coming months.
Charities Auction – July 2012
FamilyFarms Teams and staff along with guests gathered in the Khorassan Ballroom of the Chase Park Plaza in St. Louis the evening of July 18 for our second FamilyFarms auction event. Silent and live auctions along with raffles and games brought in more than $40,000 to be used for worthy projects. With a 50’s theme for the evening, Summer Nights, participants enjoyed sliders, grilled cheese, onion rings, mac and cheese and other culinary delights along with Fitz’s Root Beer and ice cream right from the old-fashioned serving cart. Yes, Elvis was sighted among the participants dancing to the renowned 50’s band Shaboom. Many thanks to all who participated, donated and sponsored this event to make the evening a huge success.

Contributions of money and supplies for the Bethesda orphanage in South Africa – SEED
FamilyFarms Team members, FamilyFarms staff, family members and others contributed suitcases full of supplies which were carried to the orphanage in 2010 by our two “scouts” and then more in 2011 – enough to fill up the luggage for our team of 13. School supplies and medicines along with towels, sheets and other needed items were delivered, to the delight of both kids and adults. Several also wrote generous checks to help get the Charities treasury off to a healthy start.
Contribution of seed to replant the Stinkwater community garden destroyed by vandals (South Africa) – SEED
This year’s team members were shocked to see that vandals had destroyed Mama Suzanne’s community garden in Stinkwater. Mama Suzanne works hard to grow vegetables there to help feed one meal a day to more than 40 destitute children whose parents are dead or unable to care for them. Trying to sell used clothing to earn money to buy seed was proving to be a very slow process. Team members were able to buy nearly $100 worth of seed so the garden could be replanted immediately in a more secure location near a well-traveled street.

5K walk – July 2011
FamilyFarms Team members, FamilyFarms staff, family members and others participated in a 5K walk through Forest Park (Saint Louis) in the heat of July with the registration fee going 100% to FamilyFarms Charities projects. Walkers received a T-shirt, water bottle and, upon completing the walk, a medal – all donated. About $1500 was raised by the walkers.
Auction event – July 2011
The evening of that same day we had the 5K was our first-ever and much-anticipated FamilyFarms Charities auction event. Along with a delicious buffet dinner donated by FamilyFarms and served at various stations around the room, attendees enjoyed a live band and the main events: auctions – both live and silent. More than $33,000 was raised; all auctioned items had been donated to FamilyFarms Charities by team members, staff, vendors and others. Auction items included vacations, sporting events, theme baskets, a hand-sewn quilt, recliners, and even a life-sized cut-out of the beloved FamilyFarms CEO with his faithful Lab Coby.
